A philological study on poisoning of Chalcanthitum(膽礬)

Abstract

|
Chalcanthitum is in use in Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Cha1canthitum for promoting vomiting(催吐), killing insects(殺蟲), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Chalcanthitum. The results were summarized as follows: 1.The nature of Cha1canthitum is very violent, so the internal using Chalcanthitum can cause toxic symptoms. The ingredients of poisoning from Chalcanthitum mainly can cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, nervous system, urinary system and in severe case those can cause hepatic damage, respiratory failure, circulatory failure, etc. 2.The representative methods of poisoning treatment in western medicine are washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea, supplies of grape sugar, administering toxicide and symptomatic treatment. etc. 3.The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine are symptomatic treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion, etc. 4.In order to prevent against poisoning of Chalcanthitum, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
